ABC Brings "Cavemen" Into the Light

Want to hear about the most, er, novel piece of development this pilot season? Variety online has the scoop and apparently it involves... cavemen.

Yes, cavemen.

ABC has ordered a single-camera comedy pilot called (you guessed it!) Cavemen, featuring three pre-historic guys who fight against prejudice "as they attempt to live as normal thirtysomethings in modern Atlanta." Um, right.

Project, written by Joe Lawson, is based on those obnoxious Geico commercials that propose that their website is so easy to use that even a caveman could use it. (Thanks to the magic of commercial-skipping TiVo, I think I've only seen the series of spots once.)

Lawson created the spots, which depict cavemen trying to navigate the often confusing and bewildering modern world. He'll executive produce the pilot for Cavemen, along with Daniel Rappaport, Guymon Cassady, Will Speck, and Josh Gordon. Speck and Gordon will direct the pilot as well.

I'm not quite sure how well the adventures of a boorish caveman reacting to modern life will work as an ongoing series. But then again, According to Jim is still on the air.
